Project’s goal – The FabSpace 2.0 project’s aim is to convert universities into regional open innovation centres in order to ramp up their contribution to social activities. The project will be  focused on one of the areas of innovation regarding the acquisition of spatial data mainly from the space ceiling with expectation for making broad socio-economic and environmental impact. Universities have to take on a new role based on co-creating innovation in the context of the principles of Science 2.0. Open data, as a new basis for innovation, must become an environment in which programmers, industry and scientists, as well as public administration bodies and non-governmental organisations will be able to creatively meet, work together and co-create new business tools and models. The application was based on a new type of fablab: FabSpace. It is a kind of centre providing access to all kinds of materials, machines and tools necessary for the digital production of new products in one place, and FabSpace will act as a centre providing access to a range of data (including spatial data), free software and processing tools this data to develop new applications. FabSpace 2.0 will be a place providing free access to joint work in the field of creating innovation based on spatial data in 6 European universities (13 at the end of the project). Human resources among FabSpace users will be increased through online support and leadership training for students and researchers in entrepreneurship and innovation. In addition, as a result of 18 local and 3 European contests involving the development of new solutions in order to meet the challenges posed by NGOs and companies, mutual relations between universities, industry, the public sector and civil society will be strengthened. It is expected that approximately 1,500 students and scientists will use FabSpace, with half of them participating in contests regarding the development of their own products. FabSpace sustainability will be achieved before the end of the project. FabSpace intends to make universities regional catalysts (units introducing important changes) and innovation leaders in the field of data processing.
