On March 15th 2013 at the OPEGIEKA office in Elblag Marshal of the Warmia and Mazury Jacek Protas met with Elbląg representatives of education and business.
The Marshal started the meeting by presenting the strategy of socio-economic development of the Warmia-Mazury till 2025. He noted, however, that his priorities are: the creation of a competitive economy of the Warmia and Mazury, which currently suffers from a relatively low entrepreneurship in the region and difficulties in the labour market; agitation and increased social activity; an increase in the number and quality of network links done by improving administration skills and development of modern infrastructure.
The main point of the meeting was an open discussion, which evolved around problems that are most relevant for business and education representatives in Elbląg today. The hot topic was the inability to find suitable candidates from the region to work. This is mainly because of, as noted, the attitude of young generation to the ethos of work, lack of motivation and schools, where the curriculum is far from the real needs and expectations of employers. Good practice in this area can be showed by Vocational School No. 1 in Elblag, which opens specialist classes that educate students strictly for the needs of Elblag businesses.
Vice President of Stolpłyt Piotr Wojcik rated the current condition of companies in Elbląg and presented the main problems requiring solutions and regulation by the state and local administration. Florian Romanowski OPEGIEKA President outlined the principles of central government, education and business co-operation in the creation of new manufacturing technologies, services and organizational development and the importance of creating the R & D Centre in Elblag. Cluster Furniture President Wojciech Macijewicz focused on the preparation of vocational education to provide qualified staff for companies in the region of Elbląg. The representative of the Elblag Technology Park Wojciech Chwiałkowski presented real effects coming from the cooperation of the Park with local businesses.
